Shelter Them Batarure is a grass roots charity, initially started by Rwandan family members, twin sisters Jocelyn and Josephine and their brother Jules to address the harsh living conditions of children living on the streets of Kigali.

From the humble beginning of a children’s feeding program in a Rwandan church in 2003, the charity has expanded to provide ongoing homes with food, shelter, health care and education to over 80 children. The mission has expanded to supporting a community in the poverty-stricken district of Bugesera, with plans to build a village to further that mission on five acres given to the charity by the government of Rwanda.
To support the efforts of Shelter Them in Rwanda, our founders enlisted the support of individuals in Canada by founding a tax-exempt charity in 2006. Through word of mouth efforts and the solicitation of family and friends, they have been able to provide funding for activities to date but much more is needed. A registered charity was set up in Rwanda in 2014. A 501c charity has now been established in the United States, to enable tax exempt fund raising in the US.
